I’m sold on Kate and I’m ready to learn more about the magical world of Atlanta. There are some really cool themes with the blend of magic and technology, but I could use a lot more immersion into the magic of the world to really wrap my head around its operating rules. Similar to the way that I didn’t totally feel like I grasped all of the world building in the government agencies, I also didn’t feel like I got the magic.

Though Kate isn’t all too trusting of love interests, the few potential romantic plot points kind of left me shaking my head. Though we’re introduced to a few potential love interests in this story, it’s the Beast Lord, head of the shifters that steals the show. As this is getting into a long running series, I’m not worried, I’m sure I’ll pick up more as the story goes on. While this first case took us on a tour of the magical powerhouses of Atlanta, I couldn’t say that I fully got my head around the magical enforcement bodies at play. I enjoy her mercenary attitude and her no nonsense approach to getting the answers she needs. She is tough, unique, hiding a lot and we’re meeting her as she’s being thrust into the supernatural spotlight.

Kate Daniels is definitely a heroine I want to know more about.
